Best Buy Iphone Upgrade
One major change in the 2022 iPhone 14 lineup There's no new iPhone Mini. Instead, Apple replaced it with the iPhone 14 Plus. It's identical to the iPhone 14 in every way except for size and battery life. The latter is where it really shines. I routinely had to charge the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro at the end of a busy day, but the iPhone 14 Plus often had enough juice to last until the afternoon of the second day off the charger. It even bested the iPhone 14 Pro Max in my testing. If you're frequently turning on Low Power Mode, this is the iPhone to buy.
These devices differ only in size and battery life. The iPhone 14 Pro Max lasted a little more than a day, whereas the iPhone 14 Pro will need to be recharged by bedtime (with heavy use). The Pro models add a 120-Hz screen refresh rate, which makes all interactions look and feel more responsive, the screens can get brighter, and they're made of stainless steel instead of aluminum, so they're a smidge more durable. The triple-camera system is now led by a 48-megapixel primary camera, which can also capture 2X zoom photos in pretty great quality, effectively giving you four zoom levels with the ultrawide and telephoto. We haven't seen a huge difference in our photo tests compared to the iPhone 13 Pro, so don't expect a major upgrade here.
Then there are the cameras. The iPhone typically has some of the best cameras found on any phone. But the iPhone SE has just one on the back. The 12, 13, 13 Mini, 14 and 14 Plus each have dual-rear cameras. And then there's the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max that not only have a trio of cameras but come with features like the ability to take ProRaw photos or record ProRes videos.
The iPhone 14's best features are ones you may never see or use -- and that's not necessarily a bad thing. That includes Crash Detection, which can notify emergency services when you're in an automobile accident. Starting in November, you'll get Emergency SOS via Satellite that lets you use a satellite to message emergency dispatchers in places without cell coverage.
All phones in the iPhone 14 series only use eSIMs in the US and have a new selfie camera that for the first time ever has autofocus. Add in a new video stabilization tool called Action mode, an upgraded Cinematic mode that can capture 4K video at 24fps and iOS 16, and you have an excellent phone. If you activate it on a carrier, Apple drops the price to $799. Read our Apple iPhone 14 review.
From the back, the $999 iPhone 14 Pro looks identical to last year's 13 Pro. But don't let that sameness fool you. It's the 14 Pro's screen where there's something different and wonderful going on. The display notch, that defined previous Face ID iPhone models, has morphed into a pill-shaped screen cutout that can show system alerts and background activities like when you receive a call or play music. Apple calls this functionality the Dynamic Island. I know, it's not the best name, but it's truly one of the best features.
The iPhone 14 Pro has a 6.1-inch adaptive-refresh-rate screen that adjusts between 1 and 120Hz depending on what's on the screen. It also gets upgraded cameras, a faster processor, an always-on display, iOS 16 and new safety features like Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via Satellite. Driving all these upgrades is Apple's new A16 Bionic chip, which in use feels peppy.
The SE represents the classic iPhone design but with the added ability to run the latest version of iOS and apps. One of the quieter updates in 2022 was that the SE's back was upgraded to the back glass used on the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini. The iPhone SE is simply your most affordable way into all of Apple services like FaceTime, iMessage and iCloud. Read our Apple iPhone SE (2022) review.

Our guide is based on my many years of reviewing iPhones. From the iPhone 6 to the latest iPhone 14 series, I've learned the pros and cons of each model, and which is best suited for a particular user. I also work with a team of seasoned tech reporters who have also contributed their experience to this guide.
If you were ever thinking of upgrading to a Pro model from a standard model, this is the time to make that upgrade. The iPhone 14 Pro models offer unprecedented value for a Pro series iPhone compared to the standard iPhone 14 models, as they include an unusually longer list of upgrades than you'd expect between the standard and Pro iPhones.
Expected upgrades include the smoother 120Hz ProMotion display compared to the iPhone 14's more traditional and utilitarian 60Hz display. On-screen animations glide smoothly when you swipe around iOS and apps, which exudes an undeniably premium experience in everyday use.
However, less typical in a standard-to-Pro upgrade is the biggest iPhone camera refresh to come in years. The iPhone 14 Pro models include a brand-new main camera with a 48 megapixel sensor compared to the usual 12 megapixel sensors in previous generations, which helps improve low-light performance. It also enables the option to take photos in the RAW format, which captures finer details that make it easier to edit photos.
While the regular iPhone 14 isn't especially impressive for its lackluster upgrades, the iPhone 14 Plus manages to feel like something newer. It's a big-screen iPhone the size of a Pro Max, but it costs under $1,000, it's lighter in weight, and it has incredible battery life. In fact, its battery lasted longer than the iPhone 14 Pro Max during testing, and we would recommend this over the Pro models if you don't value the advanced features.
Otherwise, the iPhone 14 Plus is nearly the same as the iPhone 14. But, again, it's a big-screen iPhone option for $200 less than you usually have to pay for a big-screen iPhone with the best battery life, and those are two of the biggest criteria when searching for a phone.
Rumors suggest the next iPhone SE will have an updated design to look like a current iPhone Mini. If so, the next iPhone SE could be the best option for fans of smaller iPhones. However, we're not making any recommendations based on rumors.
Otherwise, you can think of the iPhone 12 as a premium iPhone that was a top model just two years ago. To get worthwhile, noticeable upgrades today, you'd need to buy the $1,000 iPhone 14 Pro, so $600 for the iPhone 12 is a bargain.
Despite its caveats, its affordable price tag can't be dismissed. It's an inexpensive entry into the Apple ecosystem for iMessage, FaceTime, Apple Watch, and AirPods. If you're looking to spend as little as possible on an iPhone, the iPhone SE 2022 is your best bet.
If you want to hold on to an iPhone for the longest amount of time possible, your best bet is always to buy the latest generation, even if it's the most expensive option. In this case it's the iPhone 14 series.
We test iPhones as if they were our main phones for at least a week, often longer, to get the best feel for their performance, cameras, battery life, and new features while bringing you a timely, definitive review.
The iPhone 14 walks a solid middle ground for most buyers. It's the latest model, with mostly new hardware. It may have carried over the 2021-era A15 Bionic processor, and it lacks the exciting screen changes of the Pro line, but just about everything else gets a refresh of some sort. The $799 price isn't too high, though it's not quite what some would call affordable. Between the upgraded performance, appealing screen, and attractive design, there's plenty to like about the iPhone 14.
This is the perfect iPhone for, well, anyone. It handles all the modern smartphone basics with aplomb and tosses in several bonus features from Apple, including crash detection and emergency SOS via satellite for those moments when you really need help. It's the phone for those who want something that is simple to use and gets the job done day in and day out. Basically, if you're the kind of person who wants a great phone, but doesn't necessarily need the best phone, the iPhone 14 is for you.
While there are eight iPhone models, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is the biggest and best model on the market. It comes with every feature Apple offers, including the most capable cameras; the largest, brightest screen; and the biggest, longest-lasting battery. We gave the iPhone 14 Pro Max the highest review of any recent model. It's our Editors' Choice for 2022 iPhones.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max is Apple's top-tier model. If you're the type of buyer who wants the best-possible version of whatever it is that you're buying, this is the model to pick. Moreover, if long battery life is high on your list of must-haves, the 14 Pro Max outlasts nearly every other phone on the market. Last, it's also for people with deep pockets. The $1,099 starting price is nothing to blink at, even if carrier deals break that down over time.
The iPhone 14 Pro is the phone to pick for anyone who wants high-end performance, an excellent display, the latest features, and the best cameras, all while avoiding the size and price of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. It's a fantastic phone with everything you could want, and its reduced footprint may feel more comfortable if you have smaller hands or don't like the biggest phones.
Our photo expert Jim Fisher goes into much more depth in his story on the iPhone 13's camera. (This applies to the iPhone 14 camera, as well.) Put simply, to get the best camera, one of the Pro models is the way to go.
The best iPhones are set for the time being, with Apple's iPhone 14 launch well behind us and this fall's rollout of new models still months away. So if you were going to pick up an iPhone, now's the perfect time with Apple's lineup set until the fall. 59ce067264
